You’ve seen him on the news, he’s a household name, a man who’s not just a familiar face in the nation but also the mastermind behind The Citizen newspaper – the ever-iconic Mpoki Thompson. So you can imagine how excited we were to get the opportunity to sit down with him for our recent interview.
The day began just like any other Gazzetea day on set, as the crew began setting up and our team congregated and then settled into our respective roles for the day. Mpoki arrived early, dressed in his signature smart casual attire- jeans, a tee and form fitting blazer, a look that suits his personal style and embraces his charm, but on set we wanted to showcase the other parts of his personality and style- looks that captured a more fun loving, down to earth and enchanting side to Mpoki Thompson.
Sure, we all know and adore Mpoki Thompson, the journalist extraordinaire and Editor-in-Chief of The Citizen Newspaper. But we were on a mission to uncover the man behind the byline, we wanted to capture who he is apart from his work. As we sat down to chat with Mpoki he spilled the tea on his career insights, dating preferences, fitness journey and future entrepreneurial ambitions.
Mpoki’s path to becoming the youngest editor of a national newspaper started from humble beginnings. Fuelled by a passion for writing during his law school days, he began his writing career with Bang the lifestyle magazine . Shortly after, he ascended to the coveted role of editor at Bang. After earning his law degree from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Mpoki followed his calling for media and communication, ultimately finding his stride as the Managing Editor at Mwananchi Communications, where he now spearheads The Citizen Newspaper.
As our conversation with Mpoki continued, he gave us the lowdown on his relationship status – (sorry ladies, he’s currently seeing someone!) and shared the traits that pique his interest in a partner. For all the juicy details, watch the video HERE!
It’s no secret that Mpoki is a gym bro, but he humbly steers away from giving fitness advice as he claims to have a sweet tooth and says he is no expert. He does however credit his build to consistently going to the gym.
When he’s not chasing gainz at the gym or steering the newsroom ship, Mpoki is a man on a mission, building his own dreams and crafting a media empire. Recently, he jetted off to South Korea to buy equipment for his latest venture, currently still in the works. We’re rooting for him every step of the way and eagerly anticipating his next big moves!
