The last time we saw you on May 27th you slayed in your pajamas! It was another epic Sister Circle event, featuring Abby Plaatjes, Anna Mwasha and Neema Chammy, moderated by Charlotte Makala. The theme: Securing the bag and the lifestyle. In a celebration of sisterhood we gathered in our cozy pajamas, united by a common desire to empower ourselves with the wisdom of financial literacy.
Thank you so much for including us in your weekend plans. We are also so thankful to our sponsor and host Woodberry, who allowed us to transform the premises into a haven of comfort, adorned with mkekas and plush oversized pillows.
Abby Plaatjes shared her personal financial journey shaped by her father, a financial consultant. “I have to be very strict about spending and I have to put myself on a budget”, Abby said.
As a non-traditional professional, Abby emphasised the necessity of strict spending and budgeting, shedding light on managing finances beyond the typical 9-5 job.
Anna Mwasha posed the hard hitting questions, “how many of you know exactly how much money you have in your purse? Your bank account(s)?” Erm, yeah.. some of us were stumped at the first question. Anna, Senior Manager of Investor Relations at CRDB Bank, drew attention to the importance of knowing our financial status and where our money flows as an essential step towards achieving financial success.

When the topic veered into lifestyle and the desire to make an impact, Neema echoed the sentiment of changing lives one by one rather than being in a rush to impact an entire generation. “It’s about changing one life at a time” Neema said. As a Financial Coach, Neema offers expert guidance to help others attain financial success and during the Q&A session, Neema fearlessly shared practical strategies, leaving no room for hesitation.
During our intermission Lisa Ndobho, the poet graced us with her lyrical rhymes that added to the already empowering evening. The discussion continued well into the night as guests cleared the venue close to midnight, clutching gift hampers brimming with delightful treats like beauty products, toiletries, a book of poetry, and assorted candy. A huge thank you to: Martini, Sofn’Free, Flo wipes and Charlotte Makala the Author.
It was a captivating gathering where stories were shared, insights were exchanged, and the bonds of sisterhood grew stronger all thanks to Zakia Mallya, the visionary founder of Gazzetea, who recognized the need for women to come together and discuss their issues in a safe and comfortable space over four years ago. Initially met with hesitation when she proposed the idea of inviting Tanzanian women to gather in their pajamas, Zakia persevered until collaborators caught sight of her profound vision.
Sister Circle events are designed to dismantle emotional and mental barriers, and is a powerful platform for learning and growth. At the core of a successful Sister Circle gathering lies vulnerability. While the event featured three accomplished professionals and trailblazers in their respective fields, that night we got to hear from three resilient mothers who candidly shared their experiences with marriage, divorce, unconditional love for their children, and their journey towards financial triumph.
We can’t wait to see you at the next event! Let us know if there’s a specific topic or guest you would like for us to feature in our next event. Drop a comment and we will be sure to take your thoughts into consideration.
