Siku ya Mama in Swahili or Mothers Day is a divine day that celebrates the sacred and special bond between mother (- figure)’s and their children.
Remember when we were young and artsy and created mother’s day cards? When we presented mama with hand made gifts and offered to make her chai? Remember?
No — you don’t? We get it, Mother’s Day isn’t celebratory for everyone.
Mother’s Day isn’t celebratory for everyone.
This Mother’s day Gazzetea wants to acknowledge those of you who:
- Might have lost their mother
- Are struggling with infertility
- Have lost a pregnancy, child or baby
- Have a strained relationship with their mother
Firstly we are sending you virtual hugs whether you can relate to any of the scenarios mentioned above or not. Secondly, we are here to acknowledge that life is not fair, it’s not easy, but it is worth celebrating and sharing.
If you know of someone who has or is experiencing any of the above scenarios we encourage you to reach out to them. A simple text like:
“Hey, it’s mother’s day today and I know this may be a painful time for you.. I just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of you and sending you a warm virtual hug. You deserve it. ”
… can go a long way!
Other ideas we came up with include:
- Sending them flowers and a card
- Tagging them in a few funny memes or reels to brighten their day
- Calling them up to chat
- Taking them out for a nice meal or activity
- Creating an appreciation post for them on your story or feed
And if mother’s day fills you to the brim with excitement for all the right reasons, we want you to know that we are HAPPY for you too!
At Gazzetea we are here to spread nothing but positive vibes!
All that being said, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!
(P.S- We love you!)
Did Someone come to mind when you read this article? Which action will you take to encourage someone on mother’s day? Do you have a better idea in mind? Let us know in the comments.
